Most women feel guilty about something every day, whether as mothers or childless, whether as daughters or victims of violence, whether as wives or working professionals. In this book, Christa Mulack examines the mythical and social origins of the attribution of guilt to women. She uncovers the taboo surrounding male violence and contrasts it with a dimension of female innocence. Thus, the accusation of complicity in patriarchy is no longer tenable. The author calls for a new form of female conscience formation, distinguishing between genuine and false feelings of guilt.
