The reason for the chosen topic was a ten-month internship in the commercial department of a company from the automotive industry. The company offers combined services for commercial vehicles. The task of the internship was to design a DMS solution in the sales area. The decision for a DMS was made without thorough preliminary investigation. The lack of a potential analysis will be conducted as part of the study to examine the benefits of implementing a DMS more closely. From the perspective of the internship, reasons for the relevance and economic significance of the topic can be derived. General applicable reasons include constantly growing data volumes, long processing times for documents, and rising costs for document archiving. In the commercial department, inefficient complex business processes and ineffective communication are obvious problems.
