Bohemia in the 14th century can be seen as a historical model case of the mixing, competition, and enrichment of cultures in a complex communication space shaped by stakeholders such as the local nobility, the ruling house, the urban patriciate, and the clergy. From a literary studies perspective, the volume exemplifies the fragile balance of power that multilingual and multicultural Prague achieved during the time of the Luxembourg dynasty and soon lost again. Additionally, it draws a connection to the literary, cultural, and political situation of modern times and the present.
