Product details
Neoliberalism, globalisation and institutional change have exposed a growing part of the population to economic and social conditions that correspond to those of an emerging class. In his book, Guy Standing gives an introduction to what he calls the 'precariat': that totally inhomogeneous group of people around the globe working in the most insecure conditions, usually in short-term jobs with no long-term prospects, and usually without sufficient social security or other protection. Standing points out that this new class will destabilize Western industrial societies. The precariat is becoming increasingly frustrated and dangerous. Those who have no voice are consequently vulnerable to the lure of populist and especially extreme right-wing parties. Guy Standing confronts this scenario.
