However, a wonderful theme that accompanied the artist throughout his life has received little attention: Picasso's world of animals. It was, after all, an animal motif that led him to create the globally recognized anti-war symbol in 1949: the dove of peace. As the son of an animal painter and an enthusiastic bullfighting aficionado, he had a trained eye for the creatures that accompany us on Earth in various ways since his youth. Beautiful photographs, such as those by David Douglas Duncan, tell the story of his special relationship with his dachshund Lump, his Afghan hound Kabul, and the pigeons in his studio.
