This book offers a systematic introduction to the productive engagement with drama as the first publication of its kind. It leads to a productive understanding of drama, particularly through active scene work on dramatic texts, productive interaction with them, and through writing and performing dramatic scenes and plays. It is primarily aimed at fostering personal experiences with drama through creative engagement and writing in dramatic forms. The goal is to cultivate sensitivity to dramatic forms and a passion for drama and theatrical play, as well as to develop skills for writing one's own dramas. It presents drama mainly as a score, as a template for its staged representation, but also takes the written dramatic text seriously, introducing conventional, modern, and contemporary dramatic texts by Lessing and others.
