Increasing productivity is a key factor for economic growth and international competitiveness. Given the economic significance of the healthcare sector and the anticipated public financial needs due to demographic changes, productivity growth in healthcare is of great political interest. The book illustrates both cross-industry and industry-specific changes using data from the health satellite account, which was developed on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Technology. Issues of productivity measurement are discussed with consideration of the development of diseases.
