The focus of the investigation is the professional mobility of Swiss primary school teachers. They have transitioned from compulsory education to vocational schools, where they oversee the subject of General Education (ABU). The biographical narratives reveal that the primary school teachers interpret their decision to switch to vocational schools as unintentional and 'accidental'. Typically, the career change is prompted by a direct request from a vocational school. The transition occurs for various reasons, with career-oriented motives being more prevalent among the switchers and pragmatic motives being more common among the switchers. The switchers take a calculated risk, as they remain within the educational profession despite changing careers. The study contributes to the research.
