Claudia Böttcher reconstructs interpretive patterns of resistance against National Socialism in historical documentaries of East German television from 1952 to 1989. She analyzes and captures the close interconnections between the (party) official historical discourse on antifascist resistance in East Germany and its representation in historical documentaries of East German television. A total of 548 historical documentaries were initially evaluated quantitatively by the author to identify initial trends regarding the cinematic treatment of antifascist resistance and to highlight fluctuations. Following this, individual documentaries are analyzed through qualitative content analysis, which takes into account the discourses on antifascist resistance for specific time periods. The final interpretative linking of both levels of investigation is carried out.
