Jamaica is the birthplace of a radical philosophy: Rastafari, a voice of sharp social protest. Oppression and exploitation on a global scale are the targets of their nonviolent resistance. With Bob Marley and reggae, their triumph began around the world. But Rasta is more than music about peace and love, dreadlocks, and ganja. In Jamaica, it is a lived experience. One thing that Rasta communities like the Bobo Ashanti, ghetto organizations in Trenchtown, rising reggae stars, and Rasta elders have in common is the struggle for justice and recognition of their African identity. The band provides easily understandable guidance on the key philosophical foundations of Rastafari and presents the process of globalization - in a different light - as a cultural expansion from the periphery.
