Product details
As one of the first Western women, the British Mary Edith Durham traveled to the Balkans in the early 20th century. At that time - as well as today - the entire peninsula was in turmoil: the emergence of nation-states brought hatred and war between peoples and religions, plunging the subcontinent, and later all of Europe, into misery. This book contains selected writings that were first published between 1904 and 1928. Over the course of her numerous stays, the British woman became a well-informed expert on the region. Her travels took her to Albania, Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, and Montenegro.
