Slovak literary studies have a long-standing tradition in the field of comparative literature. Following its methods and theories, Katarína Zechelová provides a comprehensive insight into research on Viennese Modernism - particularly regarding Arthur Schnitzler and Stefan Zweig. Analyses of their works have revealed the completely different approaches of the two writers to the motifs of 'mystery', 'loneliness', and 'memory'. Investigations into their attitudes towards reality, the possibilities of their representation, and conceivable alternative perspectives followed. The author now demonstrates how, from this disparate starting point, inevitably different forms of processing have developed at the narratological level, leading to the distinctly unique poetics of Arthur Schnitzler and Stefan Zweig.
