Christian Köhler's book is a complex and multi-layered work about Peter Greenaway's film Prospero's Books (NL/UK 1991). The English painter and director experimented with an early digital recording technique, Sony's Paintbox, in his adaptation of Shakespeare's play The Tempest from 1611. Against the backdrop of Gilles Deleuze's film theory, Köhler analyzes the conditions and contexts of this film and interprets the transitions between empirical and aesthetic life in relation to the possibilities of the medium as a whole.
