Almost all individuals with mental illnesses will live in diverse, independent housing arrangements in the future. For the professional practice of outpatient psychiatric care, this means competently, flexibly, and resiliently supporting clients who can sometimes be challenging in managing their daily lives. The authors clearly and practically outline all the associated requirements. In recent years, the range of housing options for individuals with mental illnesses has significantly expanded. Supported living now occurs not only in facilities but also in individual apartments or shared living arrangements. Support, therefore, no longer refers solely to lifelong assistance but also to helping individuals achieve greater self-determination. This requires extensive knowledge of professional tools and methods for daily support and housing provision, as well as a reflective attitude towards the framework conditions.
