A cancer diagnosis confronts those affected with numerous physical, psychological, and social burdens, many of which require treatment. Supportive-expressive group therapy (SEGT) is a specific group therapeutic approach for psychotherapy with cancer patients, based on the work of Irvin Yalom in existential psychotherapy and process-oriented group therapy. This volume describes the short-term intervention of SEGT developed by David Spiegel and colleagues in the USA and adapted for the German-speaking area. After an introductory overview of the current psycho-oncological treatment field, the clinically philosophical concepts relevant to psychotherapeutic work with cancer patients in groups, as proposed by Yalom, are summarized. The short-term therapy, designed for 12 sessions, is then presented in detail.
