The concept of mental health encompasses more than just the absence of illness. On one hand, even in the case of severe illnesses, we talk about the resources and creative potentials of the affected person, which are also referred to as "healthy aspects." On the other hand, definitions of health, such as those by the WHO, include the possibility of comprehensive self-realization of the individual in interaction with others. In this volume, the definition of mental health is therefore distinguished from approaches that describe mental health and is discussed based on the (at least partially) overlapping therapeutic goals of various psychotherapeutic schools. It is postulated that self-confidence, empathy, and the ability to act flexibly can be considered therapeutic goals in person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and psychoanalysis.
