Children and adolescents often struggle to adequately satisfy their basic psychological needs for attachment, orientation and control, self-esteem protection, as well as pleasure-seeking and avoidance of displeasure. This can lead to psychological suffering and injuries that could easily be avoided with sufficient attention. The contributions in this book demonstrate how, in various fields of social work and psychotherapy, care can be taken to ensure that children's basic needs are sufficiently met.
