Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental disorders. A large portion of those affected also suffer from additional mental disorders. This volume presents the current classifications of anxiety disorders and psychoanalytic conceptualizations. For different developmental levels of the mental structure, the authors describe characteristic ways of coping with anxiety and the associated anxiety disorders and conflicts. Treatment models for various anxiety disorders are built upon these concepts. Structural limitations, intrapsychic, and interpersonal conflicts are illustrated with case examples, emphasizing connections to non-psychoanalytic therapeutic approaches.
