Psychological Projection
English, Lambert M. Surhone, Miriam T. Timpledon, Susan F. Marseken, 2010Product details
Psychological projection or projection bias (including Freudian projection) is the unconscious act of denying one's own traits, thoughts, and emotions, which are then attributed to the external world, such as the weather, the government, a tool, or other people. It is assumed or projected that others have the same feelings or motives, rather than acknowledging what they actually think. Projection is considered one of the most profound and subtle psychological processes in humans and is extremely difficult to address, as it is inherently hidden. It is the fundamental mechanism by which we remain uninformed about ourselves. Humor plays a significant role in any attempt to work with projection, as it adopts a forgiving attitude, thereby eliminating the threatening nature of any truth-seeking.
