Abstract: After a detailed clarification of the terms Motology, Mototherapy, Motopedagogy, and Psychomotricity, as well as a presentation of the fundamental philosophy of psychomotor development, the humanistic and holistic view of humanity, and the ecological-systemic perspective, the history of Psychomotricity in Europe is explained, with a particular focus on the history of Psychomotricity in water. Other water therapies that correspond to certain elements of psychomotor development in water are introduced. Three methods that come closest to the requirements of psychomotor development are selected: Water-Balancing, Aquatherapy, and Aqua Wellness Met.
