Anthony Hope was the pseudonym of Sir Anthony Hope Hawkins (February 9, 1863, in London; July 8, 1933), a British lawyer and writer. Anthony Hope was the son of Reverend Edward Connerford Hawkins, an Anglican clergyman, and Jane Isabella Grahame. After graduating from the University of Oxford in 1885 with a First-Class Degree, he became a lawyer in London. He married in 1903 and had two sons and a daughter. During World War I, he worked in the Ministry of Information. In 1918, he was knighted for his services during the war.
