Sándor Ferenczi's clinical diary has a tumultuous history. Written in 1932, a year before his death and a year before the rise of the National Socialists, it was only published in French more than 50 years later. The first edition in the original German language did not appear until the late 1980s. The clinical diary contains reflections on important aspects of treatment techniques, his relationship with Freud, and countless notes and fragments of thought about Ferenczi's own therapeutic practice. In this sense, it is a central yet underexplored document in the history of psychoanalysis, undermining many legends about the relationship between Freud and his significant student.
