Product details

Fairbairn's theory of object relations and his resulting personality model form the theoretical foundation for the work of significant psychoanalysts such as W. D. Winnicott, Michael Balint, John D. Sutherland, Harry Guntrip, Daniel Stern, and Otto Kernberg. Fairbairn's development of a comprehensive theory of object relations is often hailed as a "Copernican revolution" within the psychoanalytic theory of human personality. He established the theoretical tradition of object relations psychology, which includes W. D. Winnicott, Michael Balint, John D. Sutherland, Harry Guntrip, and many other authors, extending to Daniel Stern and Otto Kernberg. The main concern of his revolutionary perspective is the attempt to detach psychoanalysis from "drive" as the primary motivational factor, replacing Freud's drive.
