Patients experiencing psychosis were long considered untreatable by psychoanalysis. In this book, Joachim Küchenhoff and Rolf-Peter Warsitz develop concepts and discuss models to utilize psychoanalytic listening and understanding techniques in the therapy of these individuals. To better understand what psychotic experience is and how a different approach to listening in psychoanalysis, psychiatry, and psychotherapy could address this experience, the authors engage with theoretical concepts of psychoanalysis and psychopathology, as well as their historical development, and complement these with clinical case vignettes. For their critical reflection on clinical attitudes and techniques, they draw on the interpretation of significant works from literature and music, theories of musical listening, and philosophical approaches.
