In light of diverging contemporary historical currents, masculinity has come under fundamental criticism. The authors of this book analyze the crises and conflicts of male identity and fatherhood through clinical case studies and conceptual considerations. They formulate nuanced models of the development of male sexuality and examine the destructive expression of male aggression. The recent critique of traditional masculinity is addressed, while also emphasizing the specificity of male bodily experiences and the necessity of their symbolism. The contributors illuminate the unconscious dimensions of masculinity and fatherhood and develop concepts of male identity that integratively consider biological, psychological, and social aspects.
