From the very beginning, psychoanalysis has engaged with art. Works on music and film are among the newer developments and have recently brought the question of a comprehensive cultural theory to the forefront. While previous discussions have mostly focused on the content analysis of individual works, this volume shifts the focus to the dynamics of reception. From the perspective of their respective fields, the authors reconstruct the process that occurs between the work and its audience: What processes can an image trigger in us? Why does a song move us?
