Product details

In the present book, which is aimed equally at psychotherapists and at scholars of art, literature, and cultural studies, Joachim F. Danckwardt develops the foundations of a psychoanalytic process aesthetics. According to his thesis, which draws on Gottlieb Baumgarten and Paul Klee, works of art are not only the organs of manifestation for sensory knowledge, but they are also organs of perception. They encompass forms, color, language, and sound images, as well as processes of development, change, and deformation. Danckwardt also suggests that the art of psychoanalytic interpretation can be understood and treated as a result of the integration of internal and external processes. The author provides a highly illustrative insight into central processes, the plausibility of which often fails due to their inadequate representability: processes of development and change.
