Product details

The social-historical consequences of National Socialism on the perpetrator side are among the best-kept secrets of German post-war history. The generation of perpetrators' rejection of responsibility for their (co-)culpability in the regime's crimes and atrocities has left deep marks on the souls of their descendants: identity disturbances, diffuse feelings of guilt and grief, desires for restitution, and feelings of shame, the causes of which they do not understand. Recent research shows that the unconscious transmission of unresolved conflicts can also contribute to right-wing extremist orientations and identifications. The contributors approach the aftermath of National Socialism in various ways: empirically, theoretically, based on group-analytic and therapeutic practice, or their own biographies. Due to this diversity of perspectives, the volume is aimed not only at the scientific community but also at an audience that seeks to understand the emotional legacies of National Socialism out of (self-)reflective interest. Contributions by Ute Althaus, Wolfgang Benz, Oliver Decker, Kurt Grünberg, Hannes Heer, Elke Horn, Jan Lohl, Friedrich Markert, Angela Moré, Heike Radeck, Katharina Rothe, and Ruth Waldeck.
