Our life expectancy continues to rise: those who are 60 today can expect another 20 to 25 years of life ahead. This period thus encompasses about a third of adult life. For this culturally new life situation, there are neither role models nor frameworks. Therefore, the task for today's older adults is to explore their individual path to a fulfilling aging process—whether alone or as a couple. Based on the concept of lifelong development, Hartmut and Hildegard Radebold illustrate what further development opportunities exist even beyond the age of 60. They suggest asking relevant questions as early as possible: What plans, ideas, and wishes do I have after leaving the workforce, and how can I realize them? How do I address unspoken conflicts within my family and circle of friends?.
