In psychiatry, psychodynamics and psychotherapy are gaining importance in the treatment of psychoses. Unlike in the past, the focus is not on an alternative to the biologically oriented understanding of mental illnesses or on purely pharmacological therapies, but rather on the meaningful integration of what is therapeutically feasible and sensible for individuals with psychosis. The theoretical foundations emphasize the complex interplay of the individual components. In line with modern research findings, neurobiological, genetic, social, individually developmental, and depth psychological facts are compiled. Individually tailored therapy variations become possible with a neuropsychodynamic understanding and are illustrated with numerous clinical examples. Both group and individual therapeutic approaches are presented.
