What is Public Health? Public Health is the first volume of a new series aimed at a broad audience in the German-speaking world, titled "Compact Series on Health Sciences." The book addresses the question "What exactly is Public Health?" It introduces the interdisciplinary, practice-oriented science of Public Health and demonstrates its significance for our society—and consequently for our personal health. At the beginning, the historical origins of Public Health are briefly described. Following that, the interdisciplinary field is presented along with its key disciplines. It explains what Public Health focuses on, and then showcases exemplary programs at both national and international levels. A brief overview of the methods used in Public Health ultimately leads into the next section.
