Klinger has been through a lot and prefers to hang out with his kind in the seediest dives of San Francisco. Getting through the day with coffee, cigarettes, and a few drinks, while finding a place to stay for the night, is his motivation to scrape by as a petty criminal. However, when he targets a drunk who turns out to be an important app developer, Klinger realizes that he can score much more with a glowing smartphone or an IPO than with the small-time hustles of the night.
