Product details

The Zimmermann brothers made a decisive contribution to the emergence and completion of southern German Rococo. Growing up in the milieu of the Wessobrunn stucco artists, they remained closely connected to this circle throughout their lives and left a lasting impact on it. The elder brother, Johann Baptist, a stucco artist and fresco painter, worked for the Wittelsbach family from 1720 and created the splendid rooms of courtly Rococo in the Munich Residenz, the Amalienburg, and Nymphenburg Palace alongside François Cuvilliés. Dominikus, who pursued a bourgeois career as a stucco artist, altar builder, and master builder, achieved a unique synthesis of ornament and architecture. Through their collaboration, the brothers produced outstanding achievements in spatial and decorative art. Their late work, the "heavenly" Wies, is considered a jewel of Rococo and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 1983.
