Product details

The Cypriot sculptor Pygmalion became a misogynist, as Ovid reports, due to the excesses of women. He found solace for his longing in art and from then on tried to create the perfect statue of a woman. When he succeeds, he falls in love with the figure he has created. The gods ultimately breathe life into her, and Pygmalion has a child with Galatea, as she would later be named. Art historian and theorist Jean-Claude Lebensztejn explores this myth through a journey in art history and reveals through this narrative a millennia-old utopia that may soon become a reality.
