"Wachtelzeit" is the fifth poetry collection by Klaus Anders. In the cycle "Pennsylvania," a good-for-nothing speaks about himself and his surroundings. In the second part, we examine a 20th-century dictator who, alive but diminished, is displayed in a shop in Brooklyn. A ballad leads us to Madonna and her futile dream. A Bambi laments the losses of age. In prison, a ruined speculator wonders what crimes he has committed. We sit by the deathbed of William Blake, wander with the poet John Clare for four days from the asylum where he lived back home to his wife and children, and listen to the family coachman of the Leopardi in Recanati. The third part concludes the collection with four hymns dedicated to earth, air, water, and fire.
