Product details

Petre M. Andreevski (1934-2006) wrote "Quecke," the great novel about Macedonia at the beginning of the 20th century. He has long been a classic and required reading in his homeland. In the first German translation by Benjamin Langer, we too learn about the fate of Jon and Velika, a couple from a small village in the mountains, caught up in the upheavals of Macedonian history. It is the time of the Balkan Wars, World War I, and the years following these significant events. Jon and Velika tell their story in alternating chapters, revealing how they are nearly crushed between political upheavals, claims to property, and conflicts. "Quecke" is a narrative of tragic proportions, where the relentless struggle for survival takes on a peculiar beauty.
