Feminist Disputes gathers theses and utopias of a feminism that navigates between reason and passion: on one hand, this means a rational critique of society in the spirit of the Enlightenment, and on the other hand, passionate identity politics. A materialist, politically active feminism must not lose sight of either pole, but must move between them, aware of the contradictions. It should encourage individuals to take to the streets for their political interests while simultaneously critiquing the capitalist patriarchy as an overarching social form. The argument is consciously made from the perspective of women. In its internal tension between identity politics and social critique, feminism functions best as a solidarity-driven and combative engagement of women who identify as women.
