Product details

The relationships between Turkey and the European Union were characterized by great skepticism on both sides until the beginning of the 21st century. Since the rise to power of the Islamic-conservative AK Party in 2002, Turkey has approached Europe through relevant legislative changes in the form of harmonization packages, marking the beginning of EU negotiations. The current ruling party can be defined as democratically conservative based on its political activities to date. Its actions suggest not an Islamization, but rather a Europeanization. The aim of this work is to analyze the transformation process in the country and the dimensions of EU accession. The focus is on examining the social, societal, and economic trends in Turkish politics both after 2002 and before.
