In addition to the agadic sayings explicitly attributed to authors, as found in the vast and diverse field of Jewish traditional literature, our attention is drawn to a considerable number of agadic statements that are transmitted without mentioning an author, yet still indicate authorship. These are the agadic statements for which the scholars are designated as the authors. "The scholars say" is a formula that imparts a stamp of anonymity to the statement it introduces, while still distinguishing it from the large mass of anonymous statements included in the written tradition without any formula. I have compiled a collection of all these semi-anonymous agadic statements, which can be widely found scattered throughout the various works of post-Tannaitic agadic Midrash.
