Our social system is at its end. It cannot be reformed, says Hamburg economics professor Thomas Straubhaar. But it can be revolutionized: through a universal basic income. When all people, from infants to the elderly, receive a basic income, it does not disempower them but rather frees them for independence and their own decisions. And the state no longer invests in managing scarcity but in ensuring fair treatment for all. Does that sound too good to be financially viable? On the contrary, it is possible, as Straubhaar demonstrates. The universal basic income is a liberal, effective, and social way to bring justice and efficiency to a social system that has gone out of balance, thus contributing significantly to inner peace. Germany, as one of the largest and most stable economies in the world, should dare to undertake this experiment.
