Uncompromising yet empathetic, Jana Frey depicts Ben's journey into the "brown swamp." The 16-year-old student becomes a welcome target for right-wing slogans and fascist ideology due to a series of academic and personal failures and frustrations. However, he is by no means just a victim! Time and again, there are opportunities for reflection and withdrawal, but Ben neither sees nor seizes them – and thus he gets caught in a whirlpool of violence from which his hopelessly overwhelmed family and his old friends, who increasingly turn away from him, cannot rescue him. It takes a drastic situation for Ben to confront and grapple with his actions. Yet, turning away from these dubious values is not something that can be done "just like that"...
