Since the spatial turn in the 1980s, spatiality has become a key theme in the humanities and cultural sciences. In particular, geography, sociology, and aesthetics have initiated a shift in spatial thinking and paved the way for the rediscovery of classical European texts from the humanities and natural sciences. This volume brings together, for the first time, a representative selection of foundational texts on spatial theory from the early modern period to the present, which not only engage with the phenomenology of space but also reflect on media, social, political, and aesthetic spaces. Brief introductions present the respective texts and their authors in their historical and theoretical context.
