Every person develops fundamental rules and views in their early years that later shape their personal lifestyle and the way they approach others. The authors differentiate based on the individual psychology of Alfred Adler between four basic orientations or priorities: convenience, the desire to please, control, and superiority. Each person is bound in their thinking and actions to the basic orientation of their own self that they have unconsciously chosen. They achieve freedom when they understand this basic pattern and, in a further step, recognize how to interact with others who align with different priorities.
