Since the beginning of the reform and opening-up in the early 1980s, China has been on a developmental path from a socialist to a market-oriented economic system. This journey is accompanied by a gradual establishment of legal foundations for business transactions. Currently, Chinese civil law consists of various laws that collectively cover the regulatory scope of the German Civil Code (BGB). So far, there has been no systematic comprehensive presentation of Chinese civil law, although insufficient knowledge and lack of systematization of this legal area are among the greatest obstacles to sustainable activity in the Chinese market. The target audience of the book primarily includes German companies and law firms that want to strengthen their presence in the Chinese market, as well as scholars and students seeking an initial insight into Chinese law.
