'Philosophy' is, first and foremost, feminine, and few people know that there were female philosophers even in ancient times. This edition gathers the testimonies of women from ancient Greece who were associated with the Pythagorean school of philosophy, foremost among them a certain Theano. It includes her preserved letters and sayings, as well as excerpts and source texts about these women. Accompanying the texts is Christoph Martin Wieland's study "The Pythagorean Women" from 1789, in which he aimed to introduce the learned world to the already forgotten figure of Theano.
