Fellini brought it to the screen - and now Karl-Wilhelm Weeber presents a new translation. Trimalchio, the host, is a freed slave and newly wealthy. He boasts to his guests - who are also freedmen - about his wealth and his supposed education, which he does not actually possess! They try to imitate high society as best as they can. Against this backdrop, the work is not only an amusing read but also a piece of Roman social and mental history.
