Das altfranzösische Rolandslied
French, German, Egbert Kaiser, Wolf Steinsieck, 1999Product details
The epic about Roland, the vassal of Charlemagne, who loses his life in battle against the Saracens due to betrayal, is not only the most famous and, in every respect, the most significant hero epic of Old French literature. As a national epic, it is also one of the most important works in the literary canon of France as a whole. This work, which was created at the end of the 11th century and served as a basis for the Middle High German "Rolandslied" by the cleric Konrad, is presented here in a bilingual edition with extensive commentary.
