Horváth's famous play, premiered in 1937, revolves around the station master Hudetz and his involvement in a train accident. It is the fourth Horváth text to be published in the Universal Library in a revised, reliable text form based on the originals, following "Stories from the Vienna Woods," "Kasimir and Karoline," and "Youth Without God." This is done in collaboration with the Literary Archive of the Austrian National Library, where a new historical-critical edition is currently being developed. The inclusion of selected drafts, notes, and structural plans allows for a precise tracking of Horváth's work on the play. A detailed line commentary and an introductory afterword provide additional aids for understanding.
