Palomar, Calvino's last and most mature work, is a novel in episodes, featuring small observations of everyday life that can also be read as individual stories. The protagonist, Mr. Palomar, is endowed by Calvino with many details that mirror his own biography: both are somewhat older, have a wife and daughter, and can work from home; they have an apartment in Rome but spend the summer in a house with a garden; at times they live in Paris, where they shop or visit the Jardin des Plantes; both are interested in astronomy and take trips to Mexico and the Orient.
