Product details

The 20th century was the age of political visions. The irreconcilable conflicts between communism, liberalism, and fascism left deep marks on Tony Judt's family: his cousin died in Auschwitz, his father was a Marxist, he himself was passionate about the kibbutz movement in Israel, experienced 1968 in Paris, witnessed neoliberal Britain under Thatcher, and finally, in 1989, the end of communism in Europe. In his last book, the historian who passed away in 2010, supported by his friend Timothy Snyder, skillfully and critically connects personal memory with an assessment of the great political ideas of modernity. A book that will itself make history.
